Cultural Psychology

Recent social events have piqued my interest in the relationship between culture and psychology. I am putting together an online college class on the topic. Once I started reading the major textbooks on the topic, I realized my questions aren’t really covered in the regular cultural psychology questions. I will continue with teaching the “traditional” cultural psychology material, while looking for answers to my questions

My Questions about Cultural Psychology

Do our (US) leading theories apply to other cultures?

If not can they, should they, be reworked to be more general?

Do (US) psychological concepts impact the judicial process?

              Is it contributing to the prison overpopulation problem?

Are their other ways current (US) psychological theories enable institutional bias?

Could better cultural psychology theories improve race relations, in the US and in other countries that experience extreme racial discrepancies?

              If so, who needs to know this information? Politicians? Military Leaders? Business Leaders?

Do other cultures have psychological theories that could benefit us?

How can psychology help alleviate institutional racism?
